Meet the Sixth-Generation Painter, Behind Emerald Painting
My name is Stephen McPhatter, and I own Emerald Painting Inc. I’m the sixth generation of painters in my family, and the trade came to me the way it came to the generations before me: on a job site, with a brush in my hand.
Learning from my late father meant learning three things at once. He showed me how to paint well, how to run a business people can trust, and how to stay humble doing both. Those lessons still shape how I run every project.
Over more than 20 years as an entrepreneur, I’ve served hundreds of residential and commercial clients. Along the way, I took a role as Operations Manager with a painting franchise, where I learned to manage multiple projects on firm timelines. It stretched me, and it sharpened my skills on the business side of painting.
Then 2020 arrived and the industry stopped cold. Reopening my own company in the middle of that uncertainty took real determination, and it meant adapting our work ethic and safety measures to keep serving clients well.
As the business grew, the original name stopped matching my vision. As a Christian, and guided by my own discernment, I felt compelled to start fresh with a new name, new branding and a new marketing approach. Emerald Painting was the result.
The name is deliberate. Emerald green stands for balance, harmony, renewal and growth, along with the wealth, refinement and royalty the stone has long symbolized. That’s what Driven By A Purpose means to me, and it’s what I bring to every home and business we paint.
